The Disabled Persons' Association of Bhutan was created by a group of incredible individuals who experience life with a disability in order to empower the disabled population of Bhutan. Their mission is to ensure those with disabilities have access to quality education, improved accessibility, a better quality of life and basic human rights which will enable them to participate meaningfully in their community. The DPAB is currently supporting 6 visually-impaired adults in their pursuit to become active members of society. They are all talented in traditional Bhutanese music and are hoping to transform their talent into a livelihood. It is very empowering to witness a group of individuals with a disability who are attempting to become independent adults in a community that is not disability-friendly (i.e. no accessible roads/walkways, no government funding, limited assistive devices). We have worked closely with this organization over the past 6 weeks since arriving in Bhutan and believe in the good that they are hoping to achieve. As a charitable organization, they rely on donations to fund their activities. We are asking that if you feel passionate about giving disadvantaged people a chance to make their way, that you help us make it possible to train these 6 individuals to become professional musicians in Bhutan. To hire a full-time professional music teacher to teach these 6 individuals for 2 years will cost equivalent to $5,000 CA. We would appreciate your help in making their dreams possible! Thank you for helping us make this happen!
