This Campaign is to support Leo Tan to be the first Malaysian Olympic Marathoner 2020.
This is his story:
From Hobby to Passion and then to A Malaysian Dream.
My name is Leo Tan Huong Leong, from Layang- Layang, a small town in Johor.
Over the years since 2013, I have regularly competed in Marathons and have been successful in bringing down my times in the following Marathons;
2014 | TAIPEI MARATHON |
2:39:06 |
2015 | KAOHSIUNG MARATHON | 2:39:16 |
2016 | TAIPEI MARATHON | 2:35:25 |
2017 | TOKYO MARATHON | 2:28:19 |
2018 | TOKYO MARATHON |
2:25:32 |
2018 | FUKUOKA INTERNATIONAL OPEN MARATHON | 2:24:04 |
I achieved my personal best time of 2 hours 25 minutes and 32 seconds in the 2018 Tokyo Marathon.
This time is also a new National record breaking the previous time of 2 hours 28 minutes and 36 seconds. However, due to some technical circumstances, this time was not recognized by Malaysia Athletics Federation (MAF) (Malay: Kesatuan Olahraga Malaysia) and this limits the support that MAF can provide to me.
I was disheartened and disappointed but knowing that I am only 7 minutes away from the Rio Olympic qualifying mark of 2hours 19 minutes. I decided that instead of letting the disappointment bring me down, I am going to use it as motivation to achieve the dream of being the first Malaysian Marathoner to qualify for the Olympics.
With support and encouragement from my wife, family and friends and personal coaching from Jean Pierre Lautredoux, (A former world top 20 Long distance runner), I took the ultimate step of quitting my job as an Electrical Engineer in May 2018 to train full time towards the dream of competing in Tokyo Olympics 2020.

- Create Malaysian history - to be the first to qualify as Malaysian marathon Olympian.
- Pave the way for future Malaysian marathoners - I believe in Jean Pierre’s methods of training and his recommendations will help create performance breakthroughs for Malaysian athletes.
I would be needing about USD25,000.00 to finance the above trainings and competitions. I hereby am requesting for financial support so that I can solely focus on training and competing full time to realize the Olympics dream for myself and our beloved Malaysia.
Any contribution would be most valuable to this cause and is greatly appreciated. Sharing this Malaysian dream among your friends and colleagues can also go a long way in helping me realize Our Malaysian Marathon Olympic dream.
