This was a huge victory! I have won my appeal from having been arrested and convicted in a disorderly persons charge in Ridgefield, NJ. This was so important because it is a precedent setting case for a more strict definition of harassment in the state of NJ and that videotaping in a public meeting is and should be freely permitted.
My activities in Ridgefield NJ had to do with the ban on the feeding of community cats. I was there in this town doing an interview of the main activist and then attended a city council meeting where this limited public figure cat hater had spoken six times. I was videotaping her and was going to ask her why she hated cats and before I could ask her anything, her and her male associate were cursing and screaming at me. It was a jolt to my consciousness that a harassment charge could issue after I was the one actually harassed! Then on top of that Judge Kelly and Marlene Caride PROSECUTED this ridiculous charge as if I stalked this woman! Judge Kelly a real estate attorney and Ms. Caride a politician representing the state of NJ - how sad (as the prosecutor). I was railroaded in court which is now proven and has me vindicated by the Appeals Court who reviewed the case "de novo" from the beginning and dismissed the charge.
Please review my list of accomplishments at http://www.kateriviello.wordpress.com - I spent my last personal dime to ensure that I would be vindicated from this false charge and I am now asking a greater community of cat lovers to help with these legal fees.
