Legal Defense Fund and Financial Support for Dr. Merideth Norris

On October 26th, Dr. Merideth Norris was the first person to be arrested by the four-month-old New England Prescription Opioid (NEPO) task force in an overreaching attempt to “help to address one of the root causes of the epidemic: unlawful prescription and diversion of opioids. Together with our partners, we will fulfill the department’s solemn promise to deploy critical resources to address the opioid crisis” (https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-s-criminal-division-creates-new-england-prescription-opioid-strike-force) with the glaring omission that while undertaking their fabricated witch hunt against Dr. Norris, they have left her entire practice of Substance Use Disorder patients and pain management patients abruptly without treatment, or options.

There are many of us who know Merideth personally, some of us current or former patients, but many of us simply from the communities she has lived and worked in, that see right through the smoke and mirrors and firmly stand in saying there is no truth to this. Yet to minimize their role in the continued opioid epidemic, and their failure to stem the flow of illicit manufactured opioids, the government is hanging Dr. Norris out to dry with fabricated charges and misinformation, trying this case in the court of public opinion before it even has the chance to get to trial.

Merideth’s trial date has been set for December 5th, an unprecedented speed for not only a federal trial, but one with such serious implications. At this time, due to being restricted from prescribing the life-saving medications that her practice revolves around, she has lost her source of income and not only will incur massive lawyer’s fees but we’re also worried about her day-to-day necessities- mortgage, heat, lights, food, transportation, etc. If you are interested in helping support Merideth in her time of need, please click below.
