Leaving Hong Kong for a brighter future

I am a student in Hong Kong. I love Hong Kong, it is a great place to be in, it is my home.

However, things are changing, COVID-19 affected my family's lifestyle dramatically, democracy in Hong Kong is starting to fade away. And I want to leave, to start a new life, where my parents can rest peacefully and I can have a brighter future.

Before COVID-19, I am a student with high hopes, I got decent grades in my school. Things are getting in shape. However, a single pandemic ruined my academic year. My grades downgraded dramatically, things got so out of hand that I was forced to retake my grade. My parents have the power to pay for my school fees, but I can see them struggle as well.

My mum is a successful insurance agent, she always achieved her work goals with flying colors. However, due to the pandemic, my mum starts to lose clients, and the sales she got decreases. She still barely manages to achieve her goals, but her earnings dramatically decreased.

My parents are really the best. When the new government policy is proposed by China, everything changed in Hong Kong. People started to leave and many people’s future is ruined just because of the outrageous law by the Chinese government. To save my future, my parents registered a BNO visa for me in case I study abroad. Immigrating to the UK is hard for my parents as they don’t know much about English, but for my future they are wiling to sacrifice and help me. And for that I feel touched and happy.

I feel selfish, I know that my parents work very hard to support the family but I still screwed up and make them worried. So that is why I wanted to step up and be a mature person. I don’t want my parents to worry about me anymore and retire with a peace of mind

Therefore with the bottom of my heart, please support my future path in the UK. I wanted to contribute as much as I can for my future and my family. Thanks for listening to my message.
