Learning Skills Development Programme

The campaign aims to enroll 100 primary and secondary school learners from underprivileged communities in the Western Cape, South Africa into a learning skills development programme. The program endeavors to create a firm foundation of learning skills in children by focusing on six principal components; Memory, Thinking, Listening, Reading, Motivation and Supporting Skills.

These skills and techniques will be facilitated in the following manner:

• Learners will go on a live 3 day training program followed by,
• 10 monthly Guidance Workshops where facilitators make sure learners apply the techniques and skills to their subject matter and grade, thereafter,
• Unlimited facilitation

Techniques and skills are applicable to the learners’ subjects. Once the learner is enrolled he/she becomes a member of the Paragon Generation and training is ongoing until the learner completes his/her studying.

Over 12 000 learners have already benefited successfully from this program which began in 1994. The program has resulted in a 5 to 8 % increase in the academic performance of our learners after only attending three workshops.

Education is a significant key to South Africa achieving its Millennium Development Goals as well as the cornerstone for economic upliftment of Society at large. According to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa, more than two thirds of children entering schools in South Africa do not complete their secondary education.

We believe that the lack of learning skills is fundamental to this phenomenon, and that our learning skills programme will continue to empower learners to tackle the challenges of education with more confidence and success.

We are therefore appealing to the public to support this educational initiative which costs R 4336 per learner.

Our aim with this campaign is to reach 100 new learners from underprivileged backgrounds over the next twelve months.
