Hello everyone!

My name is Layla Mikel Villanueva. I am an incoming high school senior in the Philippines, and I am a scholarship student in the school I currently study in. I am a consistent honor student who has been at the top of her class since 7th grade. I need your help in settling the school balance I have, so I could still keep my scholarship and to finish my senior year in high school.

In the beginning of 2020, I was given the opportunity to represent the school in two international activities: a Model United Nations organized by Harvard University held in Boston, MA and an International Robotics Competition held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The entire Harvard MUN Conference was a one-of-a-kind educational experience for me. I was not able to garner any award, but I learned so much about the current issues that the world is facing right now. Did you know that climate change has a huge impact on our food security? I wasn't aware of that until I joined this conference. The conference also given me the opportunity to interact with people my age who are from different countries. Overall, despite not getting any awards, I still consider my entire HMUN journey a win.

On the other hand, the International Robotics Competition is where I was able to win an award! Along with my team, we were able to get a bronze medal for the robot that we made that would complete the challenges set by the contest. All the months working hard figuring out how to build a robot from scratch paid off when we were announced as the bronze medalists.

There's a price to pay for these once in a lifetime experiences. We have to pay the school USD 4200 or around PHP 208 000 in our currency. This is for all the expenses for these two trips including the transportation, flight tickets, and accommodation. This amount also includes other miscellaneous school fees like our school educational trip (USD 120) and school club (USD 60). There were friends and family who pledged to help paying for these; however, the COVID situation in our country is getting worse and a lot of people are unemployed for months now. My parents are unemployed as well and my mother is currently taking care of my grandmother who is in the hospital for dengue and covid.

Your support would mean the world to me! As a token of my appreciation, I would be willing to make a minecraft art for you! It might not be enough, but I'll make sure that each of the minecraft art is done with all my heart and effort! (The minecraft art is basically drawing you through minecraft blocks. I've heard that people use softwares in doing this, but I make my minecraft art by myself.) It might take too long though because it takes days for me to finish one picture, but I guarantee you that you'll get one!

Daily Update #2

Update posted by Marliza Guardiano at 02:47 pm

Alright, so here's my first story.I didn't know what to expect. For sure, it was a mix of being nervous and excited all at once. From our way to the airport, to boarding the airplane, up to arriving to JFK, the rush of emotions were just there. I barely had. . . . .
