Campaign Story
Lay of the Land - Our Story
A mother and daughter pair, Nancy and Emily, are planning a move to Canada. With the man of the house no longer in the picture, Emily and Nancy are on their own.
Emily being sentimental, has many possessions and struggles with deciding what to bring with her and what to discard. She takes her time but her mother, Nancy is not so patient. Being forced to go through her belongings, Emily faces the life she has lived, and looks back on the past that she longs for, and learns to let go of the past that no longer flows.
Director's Message
Personally, I struggle with throwing things away, because everything has their own sentimental value. This film is meant to talk about the real struggles of letting go, and also to celebrate the memories and people of the past that I miss from time to time. I want to celebrate the stories behind the objects, and for you, as the audience, to celebrate your own stories.
- Kristal Sum, Director & Scriptwriter
Who we are
We are a group of six, 19-20 year old Final Year film students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. We named ourselves Epilogue Studios! Our film is titled "Lay of the Land"
What this campaign is about
We started this campaign in hopes of raising funds for our final year project. Currently our film's budget is set at $9,000. (Please refer to the FAQS below)
Why this campaign exists
As part of our Final Year Project, this film counts toward our GPAs, Portfolio, and future. Currently, there are no sponsors, funding, and our $9,000 budget will be divided among the 6 of us in the group. Several of us are working part time while still school is ongoing, thus, we do not have sufficient time to raise the funds for our film. We are seeking for any kind souls to help fund our film. Any amount helps!
When it is happening
Our Shoot dates are from 27 June - 4 July 2022, therefore our deadline for this campaign is just right after production dates.

FAQS
1. Why is the budget set at $9,000?
We had originally planned for the budget to be closer to $15,000 when we thought we would get official sponsors. After realising we would not have any monetary sponsorships, the team rushed to reduce the script's length and make it more budget-friendly. However, despite our attempts, the most we have managed to bring our budget down to is $9,000. The goal was not to lose our entire story by slashing our budget.
2. Why not save cost on equipments?
Our suggestions are to use simple camera equipment like iPhones, instead of renting out professionally. However, our school would like us to use the equipment they taught us to observe how we have applied our knowledge after three years of study. Being only students and not professionals, we are not confident that we can film an entire film on an iPhone.
3. Does your school not provide funding for you?
Our school will only reimburse the group a total of $2000. However, equipments, logistics, our welfare and etc will not be reimbursed. Therefore there is no guarantee we will get the full $2000. This reimbursement is still unconfirmed and we cannot rely on just that $2000 to produce a film.
4. Why don't you try to write in to sponsors?
We have written in to numerous sponsors but they have yet to get back to us.
5. Currently where is all the money coming from?
At present time, the money is coming out of our pockets. We have no funding and no sponsorships. Most of us are working part time to come up with the money. However, our schedules will become busier as we get closer to filming, which means part-time jobs will have to wait. When that happens, the entire group will really need some sort of funding if we hope to produce a film. There is some money saved up collectively, but plans may fall through, so funding would be of great help.
6. How will the donations be used?
Every dollar helps us tell this story! It's our team's goal to produce a film of the highest quality. The funds will be divided between the artistic aspects of the film and the welfare of the cast and crew. We intend to make the best possible film with every dollar we raise. Our goal is $9000 to make Lay of the Land a reality.
