ChildrenWatch is a non-profit organization on its early stages. The vision is to increase awareness among children and young adults on children's rights and to empower them to voice out when their rights are being violated or if they see someone who is. The aim is that each child be in school and not being put to work or pimped and abused by the adults around them.
In the Philippines, news about children being raped, killed, abused, put to work instead of school get very little merit as it the norm. It is not unusual and young lives hold little value. Changes are being made though and slowly people are becoming more aware. However, we need to speed up the process as news of mother's selling their very own children through pornography or even sex is still proliferate - to the point that everyone in a small town are doing it. Children laboring is not an uncommon sight either.
It still is very broad but we want to start with awareness campaigns and to do that - we want people to join our Facebook page and blog - to contribute articles to those as well. The first step is to increase 'membership' although really all they have to do is to like the page and +1 the blog. We would like to start with rewarding a member with a t-shirt with the ChildrenWatch logo and name per five referrals who liked the page and +1'd the blog.
The fundraising we are doing now is to raise money for cost of the shirts to be made - they will look much like the StopTheTraffik t-shirts and for shipping to the members who have referrals. The target is 100 t-shirts if at all possible.
The next stage would be to look for volunteers - preferably college students who are willing to undergo free training/seminar/workshop from TESDA or similar organizations in the Philippines who will be able to offer these for free with the purpose of teaching them to hold small talks in schools for children's rights awareness.
In time, we hope to be able to call on our government to come up with better laws and law enforcement responding procedures to protect the Filipino children - what is currently happening here is that the child has already been raped/molested/abused/beaten before anyone jumps in to help. We would like to change that - someone must be able to help before damage that is irreparable is done.
