Lassana Family Fund

Last year, a member of our community was shot dead in cold blood, whilst walking with two friends from Birzebbuga to Hal-Far. Two members of the Maltese Armed Forces are being accused of the crime, and are being criminally prosecuted. The victim, a young black man, called Lassana, was killed for no reason other than that he was born with black skin. As you know, the world has risen up in arms in reaction to the equally brutal murder of George Floyd in the United States. Rightly so. But we have a very similar case that took place in our own backyard.

Lassana left his home and his family and travelled to Malta to try to earn a living and to send back funds to his family. This is now no longer possible. Let's send a message to the world, to the black community in Malta and to Lassana's family that this act of racial violence is unacceptable and does not represent the values of our community. Please watch the documentary put together by Lovin Malta, where they travel to the Ivory Coast to meet Lassana's friends and family, and then send a message of anger towards the perpetrators and of hope for the family, by donating.

Initially, part of these funds were intended to go towards providing Lassana's family with legal assistance to try to ensure that justice is served. However, Dr. Joe Giglio, has very kindly offered to provide his services to the family pro bono. So, all of the funds raised will be going to the family of Lassana.
