Firstly I would just like to acknowledge that there are many deserving people and causes out there and while I appreciate that I also believe there is someone out there who will have the compassion and ability to affect my life in a positive way. I regularly participate in fundraising for worthy causes and any money raised here over and above the cost of the surgery will be donated to my chosen charity which is Baby Lifeline: www.babylifeline.org.uk a truely worthy charity so please dig deep.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to look at my fundraising page. My name is Danielle, I am 33 years old and I live with my husband, 19 month old son and two dogs. I was made redundant shortly before falling pregnant and since my maternity period expired I have been searching for a job, which means we currently survive on wages from my husbands part time Job.

I set this up because I have to wear glasses and I am desperate to have laser eye surgery. This affects every area of my everyday life and is the one thing that most upsets me. Cost is also prohibitive for me. Our income does not cover the extra cost of regular Optician visits and yearly prescription updates. My current glasses are over 3 years old and chipped where my son dropped them but I am not able to afford to replace them. If I was lucky enough to raise the funds for this much needed operation it would literally be a life changing experience for me.

If I use the example of swimming, something I love to do but presently find the experience dissappointing; I have two choices, I can either go in the pool with my glasses on, risking loosing them and preventing me from swimming technically correct, or I can take them off and swim but this leaves me visually impaired and I can bang into objects and people, as well as not being able to recognise faces and see where my friends are.

You might think that you can overcome this by wearing contact lenses - not so.  Any optician worth their salt will advise the glasses user NOT to wear contact lenses in a pool as bacteria can get behind the lense and attack the eye. Worst case scenerio, it could lead to blindness.

Some other examples of how they affect me:

  • I have a 'frame' around my world
  • They constantly slip down my nose
  • They fall off if I bend over and when im doing energetic excersise
  • They get marked and scratched easily
  • I cannot' wear fashion sunglasses

So I ask if you have the will to help? Minimum donation is just £1. Click on the green 'donate' button and donate now :)
