Campaign Story
Dear Friends of Larry
As some of you might know, on the 1st of July our dearest father, brother, lover and friend Larry Amos suffered a severe stroke on the way home from a gig. Besides being widely regarded as the 'best blues guitarist in the country' and a national treasure, Larry has all his life comforted us with his beautiful voice and exquisite guitar playing, often in the most intimate settings, in living rooms, bedrooms, around campfires, at bbq's, at weddings and baby showers. Sadly, due to the stroke, Larry has suffered nerve damage in his right hand and in his speech center. Though he talks pretty well his speech is sometimes jumbled as he cannot find his nouns. Determined as he is (and stubborn), Larry for now has to put singing and playing guitar aside and focus on healing.
It is with humble sadness that we appeal to all who have known and loved Larry, and who have been blessed and touched by his sense of humour and his music, to please make a small donation to this fundraiser. All the funds will be going to help Larry on this new leg of his journey which includes, Doctors fees, speech and physio-therapists, pain management and medications, and all the fun stuff to help repair nerve damage and build new neuro-pathways. (maybe Ballet lessons? wink wink!)
The good news is; the stroke could not touch Larry's darn sense of humour, nor his will-power to overcome obstacles. Larry is showing great determination in facing this new ordeal life has set in his path. His mind is clearly set for the journey, armed with a unique sense of humor and a sharply focused courage. As many of you know, Larry is surrounded by a deeply caring and tight knit family, including Athele Oosterbroek his girlfriend of 15 years, his brother and sister in America and all of you, his loving, appreciative and musical community.
Thank you all kindly
May love lift you up.

Never quit. The worst moments are usually always followed by the most beautiful silver-linings. You just have to remain strong, keep your head up and remain hopeful, in the knowledge that you are loved by all who know you and that you have many great friends and family.

Dearest Larry, it was a while before Yvonne and I came across this Fundraiser, where we learnt of the curved ball that had come your way some weeks ago! You have been much in my thoughts and hopefully in the time it's taken me to respond, you have have been making daily progress (however small) to a full and lasting recovery. Take care. Big hug and much love, Gail xx
