Laptop/desktop for compsci student

Hi! I am a second year computer science student and I am asking for a little assistance to raise for my own personal computer or laptop so I can practice and create programs that are required to comply by our department. I am using my girlfriend’s laptop as of the meantime and I tried to ask my parents if they can afford me a midrange computer but we’re currently short. Now the laptop is being taken back and I am worried on how I can continue my studies given that my program demands a lot of output from a computer. Please help me out
