Laptop needed urgently for university

I need help purchasing a laptop for university. I bought a laptop through amazon for $300 and after 3-4 months, it crashed never turning back on. I took it to a repair shop that said it needs a replacement battery and fan which is costing more then I paid for the laptop. I contacted amazon back and forth until finally I was told, it cannot be refunded because I had damaged the item. I've been without one for months and have been using the library computers but as I am working part time to pay bills, I need a laptop now more then ever to revise and do work on the go. I am going into second year and I really need a laptop but don't have the funds for one.

I am currently back home in my country so I am trying to get a good laptop for a cheap price in the united states instead of the united kingdom but I go back to school in September this year and my parents cant help me.
