Building Wells in Tabora

Facts about Tabora:

We aim to build a well in the Sikonge district of Tabora, Tanzania in East Africa. Tabora mainly relies on agriculture and farming to prosper and according to the United Republic of Tanzania Cenus (2013), has a population of 2,291,623.

A key problem in Tabora is that many villages do not have any water and therefore suffer from great hardship and poverty. This is substantiated by the fact that as a central-Western region, it is not directly connected to the ocean or major lakes of Tanzania. Here are some facts:

- Women and children get up at dawn and walk up to 5 kilometers to get water, which takes up half their day.

- When they reach a water source, it is usually dirty and contaminated.

- The lack of water affects children's health and opportunities for education.

The Project:

- Sikonge has a rising population needing water. Building a well can sustain villages in the long-term

- The average cost of a well is £3500 including maintenance

- Approximately 300 people can use a well but in fact many more use it
