Journey with Glenda #LabanGlenda

This is by far one of every woman’s biggest secret fears - to have BREAST CANCER.

And I believe that not one of us should fight such a battle alone. There is an unbelievable strength when people come together to help a friend, a stranger, or a loved one. Something special happens when in the craziness of our busy everyday, we pause and read a story, and decide to be part of the fight, by saying a prayer, offering a friendship or giving an amount that will build hope and create possibilities of living more years, of meaning and purpose.

Such is the reason I am writing this story for Glenda Resurreccion.

Our limited encounter many years ago did not keep me from being on board along many of her friends and loved ones, in this one big fight of her life. After all, Glenda, to many is not just a girlfriend or a church mate. She has been that audacious voice of an advocacy and as a personal mission, to help those who have been sexually abused and molested. She has gone through producing and writing the script of a movie called OWL BUTTERFLY, a very compelling story on the realities of sexual abuse, its horrors and possibilities for genuine healing and recovery.

She has stood in-front of students, teachers, parents, government officials and workers, rallying everyone to be a united voice in this fight that afflicts our children, both men and women, those we all love.

In January of 2018, she revealed her secret battle of fighting stage 3C Breast Cancer. As stated in her January post on social media:

“In 2017, we were fighting against sexual abuse, making a stand for all survivors of rape and molestation in the country. This year, I'll be fighting a very personal battle... My battle against cancer. This is Glenda Resurreccion and this is my story:

Pain and body weakness started in August 2017. Which I ignored as I buried myself in work. Around October, I experienced alarming weight loss. Most obvious symptoms appeared in December."

Her colleagues at Anastasia Film Productions join her in this fight. As soon as Glenda publicized her secret battle and published it on Facebook, they wrote this in February.

"We, at Anastasia Film Production, are also in a fight. With heavy hearts but with pure conviction of HOPE, we uphold in prayer our team leader, Ms. Glenda C. Resurreccion who is fighting her own battle against breast cancer."

After a series of tests and consultation with doctors, her case was confirmed: INVASIVE DUCTAL CARCINOMA requiring an immediate mastectomy of the right breast.

Further tests identified her staging at Stage 3C, with 14 lymph nodes positive for malignancy. FISH result: HER2Neu positive, requiring maximum treatment: a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy totalling 22 cycles plus radition and oral medicines.

She URGENTLY needs financial help in funding all her medical needs, that will cover hospital bills, consultation fees of her doctors, and most specially, 17 more sessions of treatment.

Being single, without any children, being out of work during the treatment and not being able to do any work in the near future, she will be depending on any kind of help to fund her daily needs and growing medical needs.

She is being encouraged and surrounded by friends from different parts of the country, those whose lives she has touched in one way or another.

She badly needs daily prayers as she goes through this unexpected crisis. She needs daily doses of PEACE, COMFORT, COURAGE and JOY. Things have been difficult especially for her and her mother who is 68 years old.

As of June 2018, she has already done 5 cycles of Chemotherapy.

At the moment, she is going through the tough side effects of chemotherapy with a brave heart. Some days, she is almost like her usual self - encouraging others, laughing, positive, joyful and helpful to those in need. But some days are harder, almost impossible to endure. She finds it hard to sleep, to be hopeful, to believe. She weeps and is fearful of things to come, heartbroken for many dreams and desires seemingly lost.

But through this rollercoaster ride, she is praising God, fixing her eyes on Jesus and claiming healing and reciting verses of hope and a full life, not only for her but for those other women fighting exactly the same battle.

“I want to be healed. I want to recover and be strong again. And as days go by, I'm gaining clarity on why I have this strong resolve to survive. I would like more opportunities from our Creator to serve Him through the advocacy He has so carefully placed in my heart: our OWL BUTTERFLY sexual abuse awareness campaign."
