Kuya Ricky had his initial stroke more than a year ago, on February 4th 2017. He experienced a mild stroke, often referred to as TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) rendering him temporarily paralyzed on his right side from his shoulder to his toes. It also resulted to 60 - 75% blindness which proved a real challenge for him as he lives away from his family. Sad to say, this was only the start of his struggles.
Eight months after his initial stroke, he felt pain on his head, similar to that of a pin prick. This was followed by the sudden difficulty in speaking which caused concern. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. After a series of test, including a bubble test echocardiogram ( a test to observe if bubbles form on the far side of the heart) it was clear that he had a hole in his heart.
He went to 3 hospitals in Bangkok (Phramongkut, Siriraj and Police General Hospital) as well as 3 others in Manila (Philippine Heart Center, Manila Doctors and PGH). After much deliberation, he opted for the least expensive option; Phramongkut Hospital. He was supposedly scheduled for surgery on the 7th of March, but due to financial deficiencies he has yet to undergo the procedure. He is rescheduled for the operation (PFO Closure) in May, as soon as he gets the funds needed. According to his doctors, he would need an amount of Baht 200,000 - this would cover his operation expenses and other necessary tests.
I have known Kuya Ricky for 10 years, and he has always been so dedicated to his family, especially his kids and his grandchildren. All I wish is for him to go through this operation, recover successfully, and be back on his feet. I am asking for help in getting Kuya Ricky the surgery he so desperately needs.
