Kristen is a 27 year old, single mom to a beautiful 6 year old llittle boy. On October 15, 2012 she was in a severe car accident while driving down I-85 SB on a Monday afternoon her 1998 Ford Explorer with the Firestone Recall Tire tread came completely off her left rear tire causing her SUV to flip 6 times and on the 5th time she was ejected out of the rear trunk and thrown 16 ft. She was lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center and remained in the hospital for little over a week. She suffered from her skull busted in half causing a blood transfusion as well as 38 staples in her head as well as her long hair shaved off, broke her right hip so has metal plate/rod and screws in, shattered pelvis and 3rd degree burns on her back. She was in a wheelchair for about 5 months and at the time of the accident she did not have health insurance and she was denied state assistance. She moved in with her parents struggling to provide for themselves and they had to basically take care of her as well as her child. Kristen finally got approved for State funded insurance however just got approved a few months ago by this time she had to teach her self hwo to walk all over again and still to this day she struggles. She says " The physical pain doesn't come close to the mental pain". This has effected her in many ways and due to the injuries she can only do so much. Kristen has always been the type to have 3 jobs if needed to provide for her and her son. Since the accident she has been diagnosed with Post Tramatic Stress Disorder and Major Anxiety and caused her to go into deep deppression. She just had her "27th" Birthday and she says her goal is to have a job ASAP and car for herself within 6 months. She says " Being almost 30, I have no job, no car, no money there is a lot to be worried about however she is just grateful that she is still here alive today for herself as well as her son. Kristen has always been a very giving person and always thinks of others before herself. She doesnt meet a stranger and has a go getter attitude and wants nothing more than to get her "normal" life back and move on. She says " Obviously this has affected me tremendously but feel it has really taken a large tole on her son as well as mom and step-dad.
