The hills around majestic Mt. Kenya are home to the Kehillat Israel kenya [Jewish community]. For over 25 years, this community has been observing mitzvot, keeping Shabbat, maintaining kashrut, celebrating Jewish holidays, and following Jewish traditions. The community consists of more than 200 members, many of which are young children, the next generation of Kenyan Jewry. The community requests your help on social hall and kosher kitchen project that will further enrich their Jewish lives.

Through this crowd funding, our aim is to raise $5000 to match the same amount to be donated by a generous family who want to remain private.Even the smallest donation possible can help us achieve our goal. Be it a large or small contribution, each and every one will be put to great use and received with our utmost, heartfelt thanks.

There are several major reasons why our community needs a social/kitchen hall.

1) Health concerns

It is still a challenge that the community does not have a safe place for cooking or a kitchen to keep their food clean, where food can come directly from kitchen to the tables within the building. Sometimes community holds many guests- more than 20 people at once- and always suffers with how to maintain hygiene during meals times. Food has been cooked outside in a very polluted environment, which is not good and healthy. So by having this project done here it will be of great importance for all the community and even guests who visit here.

2) Building a sense of community

This project on the other hand will be of much impact to the community, guests, and all the events that will be associated with the community. The use of it is to have a place where the whole community can celebrate holidays like Bar/Bat mitzvah parties and Jewish holidays like Pesach Seder. Right now, we really don't have a place to do it and will not meet every year due to the expenses of hiring tents and seats. In the future, this will help us have all people together on these two nights.

3) Financial stability through profits from renting out the space

In addition, it will help attract more guests to hold events here that will be of a benefit to the community when people pay to be here for either parties or far abroad communities that want to bring their ceremonies here. This will earn community a great profit.

3) Safety

During all shabbat kiddush service, shabbat communal meal and all other holidays, the community and their guests will have a safe place to share there meals. For example very many people would wish to come here if we had such place like a dining/social hall and kitchen since they feel secure. Many times cooking has been interrupted by harsh weather conditions eg rain, strong winds etc. If this project stands, we will not have any more of this suffering. On top of that, it can be a very safe place to hold meetings.
