"To teach a child an instrument without first giving him preparatory training and without developing singing, reading and dictating to the highest level along with the playing, is to build upon sand." - Zoltan Kodaly

I am a final year Music Education student at the University of the Free State and I had to choose a final practical project. I decided to do a Kodaly Workshop and chose Lesotho. As a Mosotho who was raised in South Africa, I have had the privilege to have music instruction of the best quality. Hosting this workshop enables me to give back to the community, and it serves as one step towards building a classical music scene in Lesotho and giving the children the opportunity to enrich their lives with music and possibly create new career paths.

The Kodaly method was chosen as it focuses on the development of music skills in children using folk songs: singing. The singing culture in Lesotho is already so prominent that this method seemed the best fit.

Children are the future and investing in them is investing in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I am grateful for any donated amount.
