I have an 8 year old Staffordshire Terrier mix that is in need of surgery for both of her knees.

I adopted Nina from a no-kill shelter when she was 4 months old.  She loves to cuddle and thinks that her "tiny" 60 lb frame makes her the perfect lap dog.  Nina used to be a very active girl who loved to play fetch until she had 2 ACL injuries in late August.  After visiting the vet (and his approval) I decided to put her on pain medication and limit her activities so she could heal from this.  It was while she was on the mend that she had fallen down the last few steps of the staircase.  I brought her back to the vet and the results were not what I wanted to hear; she had torn ligaments in both knees and a torn meniscus on her right knee. While trying to secure funding  for the surgery, her knees have been getting worse - they now make a popping noise with every step she makes.

Nina needs the TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) surgery to relieve her pain and to stabilize the joints.  This surgery is very expensive (just over $4,000) - and the reason why I am on this website.

We have been very fortunate that Nina was recently awarded a generous grant by Aid-A-Pet funded by STARelief, however, this grant does not cover the full cost of the surgery.  The funds for this grant will expire in 60 days.  In order for me to schedule the surgery with my vet I need to have the full amount; in order to receive the grant I need to show proof that surgery has been scheduled - I have until the end of December before she loses the grant.

I don't want this to be a sob story, just a request for help.  Any donation in any denomination will be a wonderful blessing.

Erin and Nina
