My names Niki I am wheelchair bound and have a condition named Charcot Marie Tooth Disease which wastes away my muscles and affects my nerves, both my ankles, feet are now fully paralysed because the nerves have died and my fine motor skills in my hands are giving up the fight as well. I am in constant 24/7 muscle and nerve pain. I find it extremely hard lifting or moving things and I get extreme fatigue so easily. I have 2 amazing young children 11 & 10 I really wish I could do more things with them . My daughter also suffers from the same condition and it causes her a lot of pain, fatigue and mobility problems. So the work that needs doing to the bungalow will not only benefit myself but will also greatly improve my daughters way of life, as my daughters condition is worsening with time. Our family kitchen urgently needs adapting so that the units can be lowered , the kitchen sink is lowered and there's a space underneath for my wheelchair to go under so I can wash up. A electric hob needs to be put on a lowered unit with a space underneath and room either side so I can reach and move around. Built in ovens and microwave at wheelchair sitting height need to be fitted with pull out sliding tray so I can put the trays straight onto them with ease and no heavy lifting. I have asked and begged the housing, council's for help, adaptions, grants but all they will do is put a sink in. They say I have to do it myself. They won't even help with putting a ramp outside my patio doors and flagging the garden, my wheelchair can't get out the back door or onto the grass it gets stuck in the mud. If anyone can see it in there hearts to help my children and myself to try have a fuller, happier, life we would be eternally grateful.
