Kimberly’s Fight with an Incurable Brain Infection (Japanese Encephalitis)

My sister and I recently learnt of a 23-year-old Filipino girl named Kimberly Nicole De Guzman, who is suffering from Japanese Encephalitis (JE). This is a serious disease that is spread through mosquito bites and infects/inflames the brain, and also currently has no known cure. Kimberly has been hospitalised for 3 weeks now and her condition is slowly worsening. Her arms and legs now have to be restrained, as the infection has caused her to act hysterically, in fear she might harm herself. Also, they have recently transferred her from St. Luke's Medical Center in Manila to the NASA Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. She is being taken care of by her boyfriend and father, who are seeking help financially through this tough time.

Why we started this campaign

My family includes a Filipino helper who has been with us for 10 years in Singapore. By chance, she mentioned Kimberly, her niece's, illness to us and how Kimberly's boyfriend reached out to all her relatives for financial help and support. However, as the hospital bills will come up to a hefty sum, they have been struggling even with help from family. So, with their approval, we have decided to start this campaign for them in hope that kind donors would be willing to fund Kimberly's medical bills. All donations collected by us will be 100% sent to Kimberly's father for her medical bills. SG$7000 is an estimate of how much they may need, but any additional donations will continue to be used to take care of Kimberly.
