Jau daugiau nei 3 metus mūsų penkiametis sūnus Bernardas kovoja su itin reta vėžio forma - mezenchiminė chondrosarkoma. Pirminis auglys buvo rastas ant stuburo. Buvo sudėtinga operacija, apie 95% auglio buvo pašalinta. Vėliau sekė 14 chemoterapijos kursų, 28 švitinimo seansai. Po metų gydymo buvome išleisti remisijai. Tačiau po 1,5 metų liga grįžo, metastazėmis smegenyse. Bernardas jau turėjo 2 auglio šalinimo operacijas su kaukolės atvėrimu, viena iš operacijų baigėsi komplikacijomis - dalinai buvo paralyžiuota dešinė kūno pusė. Po šių operacijų sekė 5 gamma peilio procedūros. Po jų chemoterapija, dar 44 radioterapijos procedūros, kitaip sakant, švitinimo seansai. Vienos iš jų buvo skirtos stuburui ir kaklui, nes auglys vėl grįžo į ten pat kur buvo, tik dar labiau išplitęs, o kitos - visai galvai. Nes auglys vėl pradėjo plisti galvoje.

Šiuo metu šalia standartinio onkologinio gydymo (chemoterapijos) Bernardui taikome netradicinį, off label drugs gydymo metodą, kurio esmė - blokuoti vėžinių ląstelių mitybos kelius. Tam kasdieną mūsų kietas bičas turi suvartoti 6 “tikrus” vaistus ir dar beveik 25 skirtingus papildus.

Taipogi Bernardas perėjo prie augalinės mitybos ir stengiamės jam duoti tik ekologiškai švarų, organinį maistą.
Greičiausiai neužilgo teks susimokėti ir už dalį chemoterapinių vaistų, kurių deja mūsų valstybė nekompensuoja vaikams.

Visa tai mūsų šeimai per mėnesį kainuoja virš 1300-1500 EUR. Kadangi Bernardo tėtis nebedirba tam, kad galėtų būti su Bernardu ligoninėse, o mama yra vienintelė uždirbanti pajamas, tai mums tampa našta ir tiesiog vieną dieną galime nebesugebėti nusipirkti reikiamų vaistų ir papildų.

For more than 3 years, our five-year-old son Bernardas has been battling an extremely rare form of cancer - mesenchymal chondrosarcoma. The primary tumour was found on the spine. It was a complicated operation, about 95% of the tumour was removed. This was followed by 14 chemotherapy courses and 28 radiation sessions. After a year of treatment, we were released for remission. However, after 1.5 years, the disease returned, with metastases in the brain. Bernardas already had 2 tumour removal surgeries with skull opening, one of which resulted in complications - the right side of the body was partially paralyzed. These operations were followed by 5 gamma knife procedures. After chemotherapy, another 44 radiotherapy procedures. Some were for the spine and neck as the tumour returned to where it was previously, only more widespread. Other radiotherapy had targeted whole brain, as tomours started growing there again.

At present, in addition to standard oncological treatment (chemotherapy), we are trying a non-traditional, off-label drug treatment method, the essence of which is to block the feeding pathways of cancer cells. To do this, our cool guy has to take 6 "real" medicines and almost 25 different supplements every day.

Bernardas has also switched to plant based nutrition and we try to give him only ecologically clean, organic food.

All this costs our family over 1300-1500 EUR per month. As Bernardas' dad is no longer employed and quit his job in order to nurse him during the treatments in hospital, mom is the sole money-maker in the family. It becomes a burden for us and just one day we may no longer be able to buy the drugs and supplements we need.

Therefore, we are asking to contribute to the hard fight of our cool guy Bernardas!
