Kids Love Veggies – A book for children and parents

Hello everyone,

My name is Vera, I am from Portugal and I am a writer. This is a project I have been fostering for the past months but have not been able to make it born because:

1- I could not find a good illustrator that was willing to work for free or for hope of future royalties

2- I could not personally fund the amount necessary for the illustrations and online marketing campaigns

So..I started working on another book which is about food and traveling and stories. It's born out of my Portuguese blog Eating Tales . It's a short story book with recipes intertwined in the plot and it's being a lot of fun, since I mostly work with food and books. My two passions. I will publish this book in Portuguese, in Portugal in a decent sized publisher but I found out that publishing in English can be an hard task. So I put the children's book on stand by. Until today.

Today I was looking for volunteer opportunities in Asia because I love to travel an it is necessary for my job and I was thinking on going next year. After some goggling I can here and saw so many inspiring projects applying for collective help and I thought: maybe, the community can make the children's book happen. You could self publish digitally and have it distributed with Lightning Source. This company allows me to have both digital and print version done and distributed in a very nice way. This is the solution I believe will be the best for this project. 

If this turns out to be an editorial success ( nothing wrong with dreaming!) maybe I can attract a nice Agent and go "properly" published. For now, i believe i could offer something nice to world children and their parents!

Kids Love Veggies - An Illustrated Healthy Food Guide For Kids and their Parents 

Seriously, kids love veggies! You just need to make them remember that.

 This fun illustrated book takes kids and their parents on a journey about the dilemma of "making" children eat healthier when all they seem to love is chips and ketchup.

 As a parent it can be challenging to feed your kid in a healthy way and this humorous and light book will offer some simple and practical advise that can hep better your entire family's eating habits.

The book ponders on modern society's food industry, the fast food-fast meals problems and the ways parents can keep their children out of that game by educating them in fun simple ways.

 It's also a reminder to adults to observe their lifestyles and maybe slow down for a while and enjoy a more connected way with dealing with the act of eating in family. It reflects on how taking time to enjoy meals together promotes healthier eating habits. It's a little foo revolution book for kids who want to love their veggies and for the parents who want to know how to make them do.

 The book is aimed at children aged 4-10, their parents, teachers, social workers and family.

What's The Plan? Where Does The Money Go?

The plan is :

1. Hire the illustrator & paginator  ( I have 4 options in mind that will agree to work on my budget and offer of royalties on all sales)

2. Self-publish & distribute digitally and fiscally on Create Space 

3. Market it :

   1. Build a website & integrate blog

   2. Build social media channels

   3. make small start up search campaigns

Of course, I would love for this book to get enough attention to attract a nice agent and get it published on a nice publisher. I believe the message being passed to be very actual, pertinent an deeply important. If you would can help me spread my word, every small help counts.
