Campaign Story
Hello!
If you are here, it is because you are interested and you value what me and Lena are doing to improve our house, our land, our community, the world and beyond! So, first of all, thank you! Thank you, because it is hard without the gratitude of people to reach goals further than our own nose.
Let's begin! I will explain our idea!
If you follow us, you already saw how in the past year we tried and experimented with vegetables, fruits, flowers in our first approach to the gifts of nature.
Now, without too many frills, it's time to start something serious: we will prepare around 100 meters square of land, that means 12 rows of vegetables of about 6x1 meters long.
The rows will be prepared with no-dig method that preserves the life of the soil, saves water and gives weeds hard time.
We will plant the most diverse vegetables, flowers, herbs and plants, trying to grow the biodiversity in the land, meanwhile keeping an eye on what we like or can sell, tryng not to create waste.
This year is also the time to buy durable instrument, preparing a decent greenhouse, cover crops, baskets, water irrigation etc. Plus earth and natural horse poooop to start preparing the vegetable beds. (I am making my own compost, but I definitely have not enough for this year). It isalso time to prepare ourselves for the next apple season. Strong baskets and tools are needed to collect, dry and make juice from apples, and definitely in february we should call a specialist to help and teach us pruning the trees.
WE NEED TO BUY NOT ONLY INSTRUMENTS!
In addition to the vegetable garden we will enlarge the little food forest that we have (you can see it in the lower right corner of the photo). We will understand together with locals which plants will fit the best and we would need to buy the trees. There are so many type of plants!
All this asks extra money that we don't have this year, with all the repairing still going on. So, not to lose the opportunity of a great summer full of goods, we ask you to be part of the mission.
Why is it a mission and not just our vegetable garden?
Scientist say that if we continue as we are doing, in 40 years there will be no plot of soil left to cultivate. Modern agriculture and its machinery destroys life in soil very fast, and as we understood, capitalism and governments are not so fast in acting against it. So, meanwhile we keep fighting for what we think it is right in public squares, we should also act in a concrete way by ourselves.
To create a rigenerative garden is our first step to a bigger picture and hope for future.
We hope with our garden to create a knot of those future webs made by thousands of small owners producing food for themselves and others,
preserving the precious life of the soil, the biodiversity of earth and building a more fair and equal distribution of wealth.
To start a serious garden this year will give us the knowledge and the possibilty to start something bigger in next years and helping who is just getting closer with the idea. I could also create a sample book, in a way that you can copy step by step what I did, for any person in the north Estonian land (or zone 6) wishing to start their own garden and partecipate in the farmer revolution. It is easy! Just need to start!
The goal of 1000 euro is simbolic, we will definitely spend more but it will be a great kick and encouragement to keep going on this path. We strongly believe that we are doing the right thing, but nothing is more valuable than the support of those who are around you!
And that's all! Thank you to all who will support, share or like! We will see you all when the sun is up again!
