Khopa Hub Dignity Project:

‘To Keep a girl in school for a full academic year in Health and Dignity’.

In the recent past we have all witnessed the disturbing news feature in our media on the plight of teenage girls.

Many of these girls have been abused and degraded to objects of sexual pleasure for them to get menstrual hygiene solutions.

They end up in sickness, low self-esteem, many days away from school, STIs, pregnancy and early marriages. They usually come from families where poverty destroys livelihoods and instils hopelessness.

This empowerment project is geared towards creating a mind-set change for our young girls in our communities.

We need to bring hope to the young minds for they are the instruments of change for a prosperous tomorrow. Gender equity cannot be achieved when many young girls are denied of their rights to education, health and hope.

The value accrued from education may never be realized if their self-worth is not achieved. Self-worth can only be realized where there is hope. We therefore work on the little things that matter most and the rest will follow in place.

How to participate in this noble project:

How it works:

1. 60 minutes group mentorship, career coaching and life skills training each term.

2. Dignity Basket consisting of 5 items:

  • Sanitary towels
  • Soap
  • Hair and body oils

  • Assorted stationery.

Key benefits for the community:

  • No days away from school due to menstrual hygiene/ lack of pads.
  • Better psychological health.
  • Mentorship opportunity by professionals.
  • Equal footing in school with the boys and other girls.
  • Improved self-esteem and dignity.
  • Improved grades.
  • Low incidences of teenage pregnancies and early marriages.
