As some of you may know, we are currently on a Northeastern Dialogue/Study Abroad trip in Cape Town, South Africa. As part of the trip, we have been working on micro-enterprise consulting projects with students at a local business school that strives to bring education to many low income students throughout the area.
Many of the students are from a local township called Khayelitsha, located in the Cape Flats area of Cape Town. Last week there was a large fire in the township, burning many shacks and houses throughout Khayelitsha.
Due to the poor infrastructure, there was significant, irreversible damage to several of their housing units, adversely affecting them and their families. Many people lost everything that they own. We are looking to raise $2,100 to cover the purchase of essential daily household items including beds, bedding, kitchen stoves and supplies, portable toilets, and essential clothing items.
Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this issue or the process for the money being spent. Thank you so much for the consideration, any amount will make a huge difference in the lives of these families.
