Baby Klay Khalil’s Fight

June 2 of this year, Khalil was diagnosed with Cholestatic Jaundice; Neonatal Hepatitis secondary to CMV Infection. We were told 1/3 of the patients with this disease deteriorates, 1/3 stays the same, and a 1/3 improves. I think it's harder being told "we will have to wait and see what happens" than knowing an exact gameplan. But with faith in our baby and in God, we held on.. he was on a LOT of maintenance medications, but not one day, not one dose missed. For two whole months and after 2 bouts of pneumonia.. there were days he was ok, smiling and playful like any other normal baby.. His blood levels/components stabilised, but his other liver function test results remain unchanged. It very much seemed like 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

On Khalil's follow up appointment yesterday, our worst fears were realised. His liver condition - from moderately ok is now starting to be severely impaired. He has developed portal hypertension, and is suspected of GI bleeding already based on the color of his stool.. His pedia gastroenterologist broke the news that in his opinion, Khalil should be referred to a hepatologist / surgeon outside the country for a Liver Transplant. This procedure would cost 5 million pesos in India and in Taiwan.. He needs to be operated on by September - October this year, for a much better chance of survival.. We expected this news might come, but it's still extremely hard to take when it does Yet another fight my sweet little bunso has to take head on in his short life so far.

Now, I am humbly asking you, to help my little one get a new liver.. a new shot at life.. that he may be able to celebrate his 1st birthday and many more birthdays with us, his family.. while i know that prayers can move mountains, we are also in need of financial help..
