I'm fundraising for a trip to Kenya Sunbeam Ministries, a home for children who have been orphaned by AIDS, are HIV positive, or have a disibility which does not allow them to live in the community. They also aim to build a hospice nearby so that terminally ill children can receive proper palliative care. A land rover will be used as a mobile clinic taking medical treatment and vaccines to hill people living in a very remote area. They also hope to have a resource centre where people can come to chat, receive counselling and education in health, hygiene and family planning. 

LIFT

The Lord God, whom we serve, is able.

I will be going with a team called LIFT (Labour in Faith and Trust), who have worked with Kenya Sunbeam Ministries in 2008, 2011 and 2012, to re-roof one of the buildings. This will involve the removal of the existing roof, raising the height of the building, erecting a new roof and fitting a ceiling.  

LIFT arrange volunteer project teams to complete building construction, maintenance and medical projects in partnership with mission groups who need skilled and un-skilled people to assist with projects over seas.

The Trip

The trip will take place from the 5th to 20th July 2013. My grandfather has been an active part of LIFT for years and I am thoroughly excited to join him in going to Kenya and lending a hand in any way possible to the community. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve God in a humble and practical way.

As well as the opportunity to serve God, this trip to Kenya gives me opportunity to deepen my understanding of another culture. I study Geography and Social Anthropology in St Andrews University, and am eager to experience the real world outside of lectures.
