Kenya HIV/AIDS Program

As you know, I am participating in a volunteer program in Kenya through Global Volunteer Network. GVN is a non-profit organization which places people in a range of opportunities in a number of countries. I will be working with the local organization Volunteer International Community Development for 2 weeks starting in June 2013.

While in Kenya I have the opportunity to work in a community HIV/AIDS organization to assist with homecare visits to HIV positive people. Homecare visits will give me the opportunity to get out amongst HIV positive members of the community and give attention and care while also providing counseling and education. I will also have an opportunity to be involved with education efforts within the community through school groups and individuals.

I have been working hard to raise the funds needed to fulfill this dream of mine. If you are able to help support me financially in some way it would be greatly appreciated. My program fee to volunteer in the Kenya Program for 2 weeks is $1,597. In addition to this, I need to pay for my airfare, entry visa, vaccinations and insurance.  As you can see, volunteering does come at a cost. I would appreciate any donations you can give to enable me to take on the challenge of helping others in less fortunate circumstances than ourselves. Any additional funds raised will be donated directly to the local organizations where I am placed.
