Campaign Story
Hello,
My name is Olivia, I am 16 years old and want to go into a career of social work, this is due to my love of people.
This summer I will be embarking on a journey of a lifetime! I will be going on a month long charitable expedition to Kenya, here I will have the opportunity to work on important projects to improve the standard of living for rural communities. I will participate in ongoing conservation initiatives to protect valuable wildlife and the environment, safari in one of Kenya's premier wildlife areas, learn about marine conservation, do my PADI Open Water Diving Course and aquire many life lessons/skills that will be very useful for a career in social work.
I have already done some charity work, including volunteering in a charity shop and in the summer of 2012 I went to South Africa with my brothers' rugby team, here we volunteered in Mama Amelia's Orphanage where we painted the schooling area for them, installed two brand new trampolines and dug them in (so that they couldn't be stolen), levelled out an area or the ground so the children can now engage in safer play, put a fence around the perimeter of the schooling area in order to provide a safer environment for the children and also got to meet and spend time with some of the children and workers. Doing this and seeing how happy and how much the children appreciated our help has inspired me to want to go on and help more people.
The organisation I'm going with is Camps International (a charitable organisation), the cost of the expedition itself is £3860; this includes my travel, insurance, food and accomodation, project costs and leader/staff costs. However I will still need to be able to pay extra for me to gain 70 UCAS points, visa, vaccinations, passport, spending money, walking shoes etc.
Any donations big or small would be very welcome. Thank you.
