Campaign Story
We would like to seek assistance for my son, Abraham Kenneth Ureta (38 yrs. Old)a member of Demolay A. Mabini Chapter, who had a stroke recently.
Last Sunday, March 27, 2016 we brought our son to Las Pinas City Med for his complaint that he is feeling that his head is aching and feeling dizzy coupled by vomiting and bowel movement he was diagnosed by the Emergency Room doctor that he is experiencing gastro intestinal pain and was admitted to the hospital and being treated for Gastro Enteritis. His blood pressure upon admission was at a normal range of 120/80. On the later part of his second day at the hospital his blood pressure suddenly shoot to 180/110. With this we decided to transfer him to another hospital for better treatment intervention.
Last Tuesday, we transferred him to the University of Perpetual Help Hospital for check up and admission for severe head pain and high blood pressure (180/110) and the attending doctor at the emergency room (ER) had him checked up and ordered a CT scan on his head to initially determine what causes the severe head ache. With the CT scan made the attending ER physician had initially discovered that there is a tumor or mass build up in his brain and we were adviced that we should have a neurologist, neuro surgeon available and ready to conduct an examination on our son aside from the cardiologist who will be checking his heart and blood condition. For the neurologist and neuro surgeon to better understand the mass discovered another CT scan was made this time with contrast so as to enhance the condition of the mass discovered and for these specialist to fully evaluate his condition.
When he was brought to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital and was being interviewed by the doctor at the ICU questions were asked and answers returned were much very far, it appears that our son had been disoriented and fast loosing his brain function. Several minutes after or almost an hour the nominated neurosurgeon informed the doctor at the ICU to inform us that our son should be prepared for an immediate ventriculostomy operation. This operation as explained by the neurosurgeon is an operation wherein a duct would be made to drain fluid that builds up in the skull that causes the brain to swell. Continuous build up of fluid *Hydrocephalus) in the skull would bring brain damage. Thus, the operation was conducted and completed at almost 1:30Am of March 30, 2016 and he was returned to the intensive care unit. After the operation, we were briefed by the neurosurgeon that there were no significant items noted such as blood contaminating the fluid being extracted which means that there is no possibility that a permanent brain damage could have been made to our son, and as advised by the doctor prayer will help the remaining 20% of the operation to be successful.
On the designated time of visiting hour of March 30, 2016 we had talked to our son and had observed that his bodily function, speech and understanding is functioning properly. So as of the present, the first stage of his ailment is over and the specialist who are examining him is determining the treatment intervention that is to be made. Several scans are still to be made to determine and observe the swelling that had blocked the canal to distribute the fluid to the spinal cord and the veins that blocked the flow of blood from the heart to the brain had subsided and had returned to normal operation, so as to close and pull out the temporary duct that removes the fluid that is being built up in the brain.
With the above situation friends, family, kuyangs, we feel that we could not afford the cost of the procedure.
On this regard we would like to request from the brethren of the craft, his brothers in demolay, friends of friends, those who have giving hearts, to assist us in this time of need.
