Kendra Needs A Boost

Update posted by Heather McKenna On Apr 09, 2019

Kendra (she/her/they/them) is enthusiastic to report that she is finally experiencing some big breakthroughs in regards to regaining range of motion, mobility and the capacity to sit! They are still engaged in frequent physical therapy, and will be starting pool therapy soon. She is extremely grateful to everyone for granting her the capacity to have secure food and housing so she could focus on healing.

Kendra has some increased anxiety and PTSD type symptoms following the incident. Due to this she has been a bit reclusive. They ask that no one take this personally, they are building resilience and capacity for social stimulation while building their sense of safety and working with chronic pain.

While Kendra is a social animal, they are also quite introverted.

Thank you so much for all of the support! It has been the most incredible healing gift!

Thank you so much for making sure that Kendra can meet their basic needs for food, housing and bills during this time of healing. They are grateful to all of you for the opportunity to be supported by you and honored to receive your care, and are already eager to pay it forward.

Many folks have asked what else Kendra needs aside from financial support. At the moment, that is still one of the most helpful things.

Due to the nature of the injury she struggles with digestion and other processes related to the abdomen, including conversation. She has limited foods which she can process easily.

If you are interested in providing her healing foods, here are some of their dietary needs:

gluten free, soy free, dairy free, no nightshades, corn free, coconut free, preferably mostly grain free

Kendra eats predominantly meat and vegetables
ideas: organic frozen meats & bones, bone broth, squash soups, slow cooked meats

Treats: flax brownies by Flax4Life, rooibos tea, ginger beverages

Kendra loves being in community, and also is an introvert who recharges by resting and getting alone time. She's had some trouble scheduling visits as the pain and emotional experience has not been predictable. As they are feeling more able to be present to visitors, they have mentioned wanting to see folks.

Kendra encourages you to be persistent in your communication over text or messaging with her. This format works best, as she can respond as she feels able. She is receiving and appreciating the care! One of Kendra's growing edges is learning to receive and ask for help and care.

Thank you all once again for helping Kendra meet basic needs and allow her the ability to rest and heal.

Almost 40 days since Kendra's accident. Kendra is still on bed rest. There is NO estimated time when they will be back to work. All their scheduled work has been put on hold or assigned to other folks.

As few words from Kendra's sister:

Some of you may know that at the beginning of this year, my older sister Kendra was in an accident wherein she was crushed between a moving vehicle and a stationary object. As an outdoor educator, her diminished mobility has created a huge work challenge for her. The incredible community she lives in has put together a fundraiser to help with rent/living costs during this time of recovery and healing, and it would be such a help to her if you have even $5 to send her way.

For those of my friends who don’t know her, my sister is one of the most vibrant, loving, authentic people I know, and has taught me so much about how to truly listen and connect. She is the Co-founder of an outdoor school, and has a long history of using her love of the outdoors and her communication and authentic relating skills to improve the connections we all share with each other and to our natural environments. The curriculum of her school is rooted in settler responsibility and decolonizing the way we spend time outside. It is work that she is incredibly passionate about, and until she is able to return to it, it would make such a difference if you are able to help.

Thank you so much!
