This is Kelly, she's a two year old boxer. She's our everything!

We got Kelly when she was 8 weeks old, we did everything right. We found a serious breeder, we checked her family history and she had a good pedigree. We were so happy to finally get our puppy. We had the best time ever, she was so easy to teach and she adapted quickly to our life in the big city. And everyone just loves her!

The time flew by, soon she was one year old. That means it's time to x-ray her hips and knees. The knees were fine, they were perfect. But her hips didn't look good, not good at all. She was diagnosed with bad hip dysplasia with arthritis. About two weeks after the result we started to see that she was suffering from her condition. She started to get stiff after running and playing with other dogs. And it just kept getting worse so we got in touch with a specialist, he gave us some painkillers and some anti-inflammatory medication. He told us to start with physical therapy to see if she could get better by building some muscles. It has helped but not like we were hoping for.

She's still not able to play or run off leash without limping afterwards and it hurts so much to see the pain she is in after doing the one thing she loves the most, run. And for those of you who had a boxer, you know how they are!

We had a check up now in November to take some new x-rays and speak to the vet about our future. One of her hips has gotten worse, the arthritis is worse and there is not many options left... So basically our only option is to do surgery. A total hip replacement. They will put in a prosthetic hip instead of her own on the left side because it's the worst side.

We were so happy to have a plan, that we actually could help her to get a pain free life! Even though the surgery scares us it's better than the thought of not having her in our life. The surgery has a great success rate and she will be able to live like any other dog after the surgery.

We went home with hope and the feeling of relief, we just needed to make one quick call to our insurance company then we could set a date for the surgery. But they were not that helpful.. I thought we got the best insurance, that they would cover almost everything because we have the “biggest” one and she's insured up over her ears. But they will only pay for half of the surgery and they wont cover the aftercare or the checkups afterwards.

Unfortunately we don't have that kind of money and if we can't do the surgery we will have to think about saying good bye because a life without the surgery is not the one that she deserves. I cried so much, would we have to say good bye because of money when we could give her a great life?

We are about $4000 short at the moment and with the cost of medication and the rehab she's doing right now we can't save up that kind of amount.

That's why we need your help! No one can do everything but everyone can do something. Please help us raise the money for Kelly's surgery.

We are hoping for a Christmas miracle!

Love from Kelly, Nikolina & Johnny.
