Coordinating and teaching all mediums of the Visual Arts to children and teens, in the private sector, School and after school programs is what I specialize in. Over many decades, various research studies have shown the value and effectiveness of art in the lives of children, as well as its correlation to their achievement. Being a hands on activity, the arts increase engagement and focus on positive achievements. The Arts enhance creativity, a requirement of the 21st century workforce. Critical thinking skills are also sought after. Observing paintings fosters this higher level of thinking.

We were able to provided Summer Art Camps in 5 of our Communities in Colusa County for our youth at no charge. This was possible through a Collaboration with the Colusa County Arts Council and Donations from Colusa Industrial Properties, City of Williams, Arbuckle Parks and Recreation, Pearson Realty, Rocco's Bar and Grill, Fouch and Son Pharmacy, Roger Moore, Rosanne Ellis, Sankey Auto, Alsco-Geyer, Gary Teragawa, L. C. Dennis, Sheryl and myself. They were a huge success. Our top daily participants count were: Colusa 32, Williams 43, Arbuckle 24, Grimes 10 and Maxwell 21.

Art Created from the summer camps are on display at the Colusa County Arts Council gallery for the month of August, With an open house Thursday August 13 from 5:00-7:30.

We fell a little short on funding but completed all the camps with a huge impact and success.

I am requesting funding for Art History and Instruction in our local communities in the county for the entire year. The overall goal of this fundraiser is to afford children from the ages of 5-17 the opportunities to engage in the arts, so that they can develop creative problem solving skills, positive forms of personal expression, and become more engaged in their communities through the arts as well as an opportunity to attend art classes that there family and school may not be able to afford.

The funding will provide Art Instruction and Appreciation to our youth by meeting the Master's of Art through the different time periods. They will view and respond to reproductions of the Master's work, learn the history of who they were and their life as an artist and finally create a work of art mirroring their style. They will use mediums such as sketch pencils, oil pastels, water color, wax water solubles, oil paints, water color pencils and paper to name a few. They will learn how to write an artist’s statement, evaluate and understand art and general art terms and continue their understanding of the 7 elements of visual art.

Instruction will be set up with teachers in the classroom, after school, and on the weekends throughout the county. I will team up with merchants throughout the county to display the children's art. Funding for this art instruction will give our children an outlet to express themselves, raise self-esteem, have a sense of purpose, community involvement and have a cultural experience. It is proven that art stimulates and develops the imagination and critical thinking, and refines creative skills as well as keeping them engaged.

Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal. I hope you can help me to achieve one of my dreams of creating an avenue for art history/appreciation and instruction available for all children in our community. I am open to any amount you can help with to fund this project. I thank you again and believe this would be a win -win for our community and our youth. Please contact me with any question you may have.
