Help us keep this mother free, and end the cycle of abuse!
The statistics for abuse are astounding. In 2018, 1 in 3 women reported being physically assaulted by an intimate partner at some point in their life, and 1 in 5 of those women experienced SEVERE violence at the hands of the one who was supposed to love them the most, their spouse. Even more outrageous, 40% of female homicides were a result of intimate partner abuse. Sadly, when the woman is abused, it is only a matter time before the children also become a part of these statistics. 50% of all batterers who abuse their spouse will also abuse the children, leaving the astronomical number of 5 million abused children in the US yearly. Of these numbers, only ⅓ of these cases will receive the needed medical care. These numbers are discouraging.
4 years ago, this young mother decided to protect her children and herself from such abuse. This resulted in unfair and inaccurate legal allegations for which she was placed in custody for a period of one year. She has been fighting for the last 3 years for her freedom and is now faced with the possibility of not only losing her freedom, but losing it because she defended herself and her children from continued abuse. We MUST take a stand against this ever-rising problem of cyclical domestic violence. There should not be legal ramifications for defending oneself and children from horrifying abuse.
Please, help her fight not only for her freedom but for her children. Without our help, she will not be able to afford the representation, that will allow her to present the facts, defend against allegations that are unfounded, and prove that she is innocent. Please, help this young mother maintain her freedom. Your help will STOP the cycle of abuse and allow her to show her children a better way of living, without fear and violence.
