Keep girls in school in the Democratic Republic of Congo

My daughter, my nephew and I are planning to climb Kilimanjaro in July and wanted to raise money for an excellent cause... Hero Women Rising is a charity set up by Neema Namadamu and supported by Care Belgium which focuses on the empowerment of women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They have several incredible programmes however we will be donating towards "Keeping girls in school" effort. Many girls in the DRC when they reach puberty and begin menstruating end up missing several days of school as this is still taboo and finally they drop out altogether abandoning all hope of a professional career and often falling into early marriages and pregnancies. Neema and her colleagues teach classes on sexual health and the importance of education. They also provide sanitary kits to allow girls to take care of themselves and remain in school. This program has a great impact on communities, not only on girl's education but on their rights and future. The paradigm is changing.
