Campaign Story
Budzy is a 13 year old cat whom I had adopted since young. He has been diagnosed with a cardiac disorder, Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It is a disease that causes thickening of the heart muscle resulting in poor relaxing and filling ability. This has resulted in the accumulation of fluids inside the chest causing respiratory (breathing) difficulties. He had his first episode of open mouth breathing on 20 July 2020, and we rushed him to the emergency where they had to put him on an oxygen tube. Since then, Budzy had three relapses, each time my heart breaks when he has to be put on oxygen. Budzy is an extremely anxious cat, any trips outside of home would cause him to panic and have his heart rate and breathing rate up. Sometimes it is weighing the option of giving him the emergency help that he needs, or to risk him dying during the trip itself. The vet has recommended for us to have a oxygen machine at home and on the trip to the emergency, which would help increase his chances of survival before he receive emergency help at the clinic.
Although distant from strangers, Budzy is an extremely affectionate cat once he warms up to you. He follows me around the house, waits for me at the door and greets me when I'm back home. When my dad had passed away, Budzy companied me through my grieving. There was once I was crying really badly, Budzy came up to me, he stretched his paw to my face, and wiped away my tears. He really is very precious to me, and as long as he is fighting, I will do everything I can to fight with him.
Since Covid19 had hit our shores, my wedding photography business has been badly hit, with minimal income until government measures for social gathering increases to allow large banquets. With Budzy require monitoring every hour, my engagements has also been limited as I now have to be a full time caregiver. It has been a very huge challenge to pay for Budzy's bills to the emergency. The long list of bills has already surpassed $5,000, and my savings is depleting quickly with every visit to the emergency.
First visit to the emergency: $3028
Second visit to the emergency: $289
Third visit to the emergency: $859
House visits: $1000
Oxygen machine: $1750
Echocardigram: $350
I am appealing to any kind souls out there, especially if you had interacted with Budzy before, or if you love animals, to please help me to keep my son, Budzy alive. I will continue to fight for him, but I would need a little help in doing so. Thank you.
