Aside from its great beaches and tourist spots, the Philippines is known to be one of the most densely populated countries and is also ranking high in terms of the poverty rate. Food, shelter, healthcare, and sanitation is just a few of our basic necessities as a human. But even before the rise of this pandemic, access to these has been severely difficult for most families in the country. What more today? COVID-19 made life difficult for those who are economically able but this pandemic devastated the poor.

Due to the enhanced community lockdown and closing of most non-essential businesses, the informal sector - which makes up most of the country's employed sector, has been pushed to a really difficult situation. A lot of them have been off their jobs, with no source of income and no means to bring food in the table. It's been incredibly difficult to sustain their families' needs given the fact that leaving their homes to find another way to earn is a great risk not only for them but for the family and even the whole barangay that they are going home to. With the fear of bringing an infectious disease home rather than bringing food, most Filipinos nowadays are left with no choice but to stay at home. But food is a basic necessity and how can we fight, or even survive this pandemic if we can't give our bodies the right nutrition it needs.

For years now, Callbox has been conducting Outreach programs to help communities in the cities we operate in the Philippines- Iloilo City and Davao City. This time with your help, we want to help families from Iloilo City and Davao City who are greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The campaign named Kain Tayo! which means Let's Eat or Eat (Kain) Stand (Tayo) in English aims to help these families who are in dire need of our help. They are not only battling this pandemic but also trying to survive the life that's even more difficult with this crisis.

With your help, we are planning to distribute 1000 food bags with a week's supply of food and vitamins for a regular Filipino family. Our goal is to raise $20,000 for 1000 families, 500 in Iloilo City and 500 in Davao City. We wish to continue raising funds to extend this food distribution drive to more and more families.

Now more than ever, we should get together and do everything we can to extend our help to those in need. After all, everyone from this virus means protecting ourselves to survive as well.
