Katerina is running as a candidate for the city council in her hometown in Heraklion, Greece in the island of Crete.
Even though she has worked for many years for green parties worldwide (Greek Greens, European Greens in Brussels and the Green Party of Canada), this is the first time she is standing for local government elections in her birthplace.
The city of Heraklion is in a dire state of abandonment; years of inconsiderate urban planning means that the city has one of the worst green square meters per citizen ratios in the world! The incumbent municipal authority has chopped over 50 trees from the city centre and there is no planning to restore the urban ecosystem.
Help Katerina’s plan to green her hometown through municipal investments on city parks, green roofs, vertical and community gardens.
Help her spread the need for investments in renewables in one of the most abundant in renewable energy island on the planet!
Help her change the discourse of politics in Greece.
“As a citizen of the world I am asking for your kind contribution to change the narrative of women’s participation in politics; away from special interests and micropolitics to the new politics of independent candidacies, collective decision-making and direct democracy.”
