Kate (Glenney) Watts was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer on
May 16, 2017 at age 43 after noticing an inflamed area of her breast
just two weeks prior. The cancer Kate has is known as invasive triple
negative micropapillary ductal carcinoma. In addition, it is
inflammatory breast cancer. In short, it is extremely aggressive and
rare. Kate will start with 5 months of chemotherapy, followed by a
mastectomy, followed by 6 and a half weeks of radiation 5x/week, plus
additional chemo if needed. Currently Kate's cancer is staged as a 3c on
a scale of 1-4. We are praying that it hasn't metastasized yet which
would make it grade 4. There are two 3 cm tumors in Kate's right breast,
and we do know it has moved into the nearby lymph nodes.
Kate will find out if it has spread to any other organs after she has additional scans in the next week.
is a single mother to a beautiful 8 year old named Jenna. She has a ton
of support in friends and family; however, the out-of-pocket costs for
her treatments is estimated at $7000 for the first year alone. While
Kate will go on short-term disability leave to recover from the
mastectomy, it only provides 60% of her pay. Therefore, we are starting
this fund to provide some peace of mind for Kate as she prepares for the
biggest fight of her life.
