Katavolos needs a road

Dear friends, family, people I dont know, distant cousins, and anyone out there that knows my mom - Marina.

As you possibly know, my mother made a huge step in 2009 and bought a beautiful Villa in Katavolos, Korfu.
It has been her dream project, as she slowly has build this ruin into a livable house and a running olive oil farm.
It is such a pleasure to see my mom happy, and one of the reasons she is enjoying this so much is because she has so many of you visiting her every year! She has her high school friends picking olives with her every single year, she has had her close family coming down several times each year, and even her father in law was overly exited when he got to go down to Corfu, before he sadly passed some year ago.

What I am trying to say with all of this is that Katavolos has become a meeting point for so many of us, and that is exactly what my mom wanted. And as you can imagine, running a small farm like this is extremely costly. My mom has taken it as a great challenge, and she has manage to restore this home into what it is today all by her self (but off course with some loans from friends and family now and then)

But this year I saw that it was a little bit more challenging than the last years. You see it is hard getting help from builders as we really dont have a road for cars to enter. For you who have been there - you know what I am talking about. But for you who haven't seen this place yet, you have to walk up quite a steep hill for the last 150 m or so.
That is ok when you are carrying a suitcase, but not so ok when we acutely need water supplies, heavy furniture, when the roof need replacing - which is also happening in July - and so forth. That is why my mom really really need to fix the road to the house as soon as possible as the access is needed!
seing her face this year having a lot of more expenses on the house, made me think that I really want to help. and there is no chance I can do it by my self!


SO, what I would like to make happen now is to create this fundraiser for the road as a birthday gift, mostly to show her that we are there to support! We who have come to love the place would for sure benefit too !
Doest matter if it is 10 dollars or 1000, but a contribution is all that matters. I can also offer to write down all the names that is helping making this road happen and create a little sign somewhere in woos or stone with your names - as a constant reminder of your great support.
I will reveal this to her on her birthday 1st of June, and I will post the reaction here on the site.

Please dont mention this to her, as it is a surprise.
