Karla’s University Dream

My name is Karla Redelinghuys, I am 24 years old and I live in Stellenbosch, South Africa. I am currently studying BSc Human Life Sciences at Stellenbosch University.

I am building on a fund to cover my study and living costs. After my first year of study I had to take a gap year so we could save up to study further. My mother is a single mother and can not support my studies financially. I au paired for two years in Stellenbosch and saved enough to register, but applied for a NSFAS bursary to cover the rest of my studies and living costs. NSFAS is a national student financial aid for those who cannot afford university.

My application was accepted in the beginning of the year, so I could go back, but in June I received a letter informing me that I am no longer a recipient of the bursary, due to my mother having an income. Now with the pandemic it is impossible to find a part time job to support myself. The funds will go towards the costs to finish my studies and books, as well as my living costs.

The campaign will help me get through university and follow my dream of becoming a Neuropsychologist.
