Burmese Refugees benefit
Around 20,000 Burmese refugees live near Mae Hong Son. Mostly of Karenni ethnicity, some of them are even born away from their home.
Keep in Touch with Tradition
The Karenni Traditional Weaving Project aims to teach these people how to preserve their tradition: the new generation, born abroad, will still be in touch with their identity.
Become Self-Sustainable
To flee your country means quitting your job: refugee often become totally dependent on organizations to match their needs. Weaving skills is a way for them to get self-sustainable again.
We need funds to...
We need 1000$ to build a compound, to buy the material (among it the machines) and to pay the trainers. These will be Karenni refugees settled down in Thailand, making them also beneficiaries of the project.
A weaving machine costs 500$
That's expensive! But any contribution brings us closer to buying one! Also accessories can be bought: needles, thread... any contribution will help us!
BNSCLC: a school for refugees
The goal of the Ban Nai Soi Community Learning Center (BNSCLC) is to provide a high school level education and key language skills to young Burmese refugees currently living in the Mae Hong Son area (Thailand). Beside the teaching activities, run since 2005, the school regularly launches project benefiting to the refugees community.
