Kara Tremain serves this philosophy in all that she does. The ripples of her kindness and generosity have been far felt and by many. In all the roles she so beautifully and graciously performs, she is the living embodiment of strength, heart, determination and advocacy. She sees the best in people and in doing so they aim to be their best too. Her tenacious spirit and ever present smile has taken a blow with a recent devastating diagnosis. We ask now that even a little of all that she has given to her community can be given back to her and her family as they enter the ring in their biggest fight yet.

Kara and her fiance, Robert “Gummy” Toomey are the owners and driving force of the Pound for Pound Gym. More than a gym, it is for many a refuge and raft that empowers disadvantaged and indigenous youth to discover their own worth and realise their infinite potential. In its six year esteemed history, its role in enriching the life of so many young men and women defies definition. The guidance, motivation and encouragement given to every individual who steps into their gym is legendary. For disenfranchised youth, the ability to provide a safe haven and to treat each young person like their own, often out of their own pockets speaks volumes of the profound impact they have had on so many lives. Each embattled individual no doubt has their own unique story of what Pound for Pound as an entity and influence in their life means to them. All will agree it was their best chance for survival and success when all the odds were seemingly stacked against them. Kara must now wage her own war for success and survival regardless of the odds now stacked before her. We trust that the support she and Gummy has so generously bestowed on others will now be graciously returned to them in their time of need.

In 2016, Kara received the harrowing news that she was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Triple Negative or as mainstream media and society refers to it, Breast Cancer. She endured a lumpectomy, radiation and chemotherapy. She had hoped the worst was over. She returned with vigour to Pound for Pound Gym, ran the Youth Programs and worked tirelessly alongside Robert in the empowerment of others. At the same time, she continued to be a shining influence in her other roles. Soul mate to Gummy, adoring mother to Rome and Cruze, beloved daughter to Peter and Jenny Tremain, loving sister to Alicia Milliss, Erin Hall and Robert Tremain and special friend and inspiration to far too many to count or name.

On Monday the 5th of March, time once again stood still for her and her partner as they were handed the news that the cancer had returned. It’s official diagnosis is Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer , the reality for those receiving this diagnosis was all the more earth shattering. On a Monday morning while most of us sipped our coffee, relaxed after dropping our kids to school, conversed with colleagues or checked our emails, lamented the weather, Kara’s world was splintered into a thousand pieces. True to her indomitable spirit, she is positive. Kara’s positivity will ensure she has a fighting chance of beating the odds, of being the miracle we are all praying for but she needs as much support and as little stress as possible so she can focus her beautiful, uplifting energy on herself, her family and her recovery.

Now Robert and Kara navigate the financial strain and emotional costs of several trips to Sydney for extremely costly and invasive trial cancer treatment. Kara’s concern is as always more for others than herself and she is especially worried about the future of her two sons, Rome and Cruze. Rome has recently started his secondary education at St Johns College and it is her fervent wish that he can remain there and his younger brother Cruze attend there in due course.

It is indeed a difficult and challenging time. For so many, Kara has been a source of light, a ray of hope and a giver of tomorrows. We ask now with our hearts and arms open wide to her plight that you give anything you have to ease the road to follow for this beautiful and inspiring family. Kara was venemently opposed to any assistance in her first battle but this is a war she can’t win on her own. Like Kara, be the change you wish to see in the world and give all you can to be her light, her hope and her chance for a lifetime of tomorrows. Just a little will mean alot.
