Kirsty and Shaun Lewis, from Hull, discovered their baby son had hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition where the left lower pumping chamber of the heart does not develop properly. Further tests have shown the baby, named Kaleb by the couple, also has atrial septal defect, a congenital heart problem where blood flows between the normally separated heart chambers. These abnormalities during the baby's growth have given Kaleb less than a 20% chance of survival and is due to undergo and emergency s-section and Kaleb is needed to undergo surgery straight away to try and save his life. The funds raised will help pay for the family's stay (who need to be in Birmingham looking over their sons treatment for about 3 months or more) and any additional funds after that will be donated to the children's ward of the hospitals of their choice.
