Kalamata Street Festival

Kalamata Street Festival is a volunteer’ based structure willing to achieve a wider cooperation of the active organizations in the city of Kalamata. Associations, active groups, individuals, are putting all efforts on organizing a big festival (last year we gathered 3500 people), including more than 10 parallel activities for 3 crazy days, with a very low budget.

By supporting the 7^th Kalamata Street Festival, you become one of us, one of the people who care about offering youth the chance to express themselves through their art and to local associations/groups to prove that people can organize a big international festival which includes everyone, with the strength of their cooperation and with limited budget.

History and cause:

Kalamata Street Festival started in 2009 and, since then, it is organized every year with the participation and support of different educational, social and cultural bodies of the city. Last year’s attendance of approximately 3.500 people, locals and foreigners, artists and visitors, proves the objective of the festival to bring out the city of Kalamata as a vibrant, diverse, multicultural and inclusive city. And the upcoming arrival, this summer, of 100 foreign artists, from 14 different countries, confirms that it is, today, an International event.

Kalamata Street Festival started with the aim to bring out Street Arts (Hip-Hop & Break Dance music and dance, Graffiti, Street Theatre, Skating, Dirt Bikes, Juggling etc.) giving the opportunity to these artists to develop their skills and creativity and freely express themselves.

From the very first moment though, this “Street” opened up towards every kind of Art (Music, Dance, Theatre, Photography, Cinema, Painting and more). Besides, art has always been the most creative way to fight against many pathogens of the society. The events of the Festival also include activities that have to do with children, combating discrimination, handmade jewelry, cycling, basketball, mountaineering, and many more.

Having, until today, taken place in four of the most historical but, at the same time, most neglected neighborhoods in the city, Kalamata Street Festival has been trying to foster the creative use of public spaces by young people, which has always been one of its primary objectives.

We saved the most important thing for the end: participation and admission to Kalamata Street Festival has always been FREE FOR ALL! And we want to keep it that way! So, the support from all of us is required! Any kind of help is more than welcome – it’s necessary!!
