I recently volunteered for a week long (April26-May3, 2014) spay/neuter clinic in Punta Gorda, Belize through World Vets. The trip has been established by World Vets to assist the local Belizeans with animal population control and overall animal welfare. I will be traveling as a field assistant to the numerous veterinarians that are performing the procedures. My responsibilities will include carrying equipment, sterilizing equipment, extra hands when needed, and various other duties.
There are a few reasons that I am excited to have this great experience! First, and for most, I will be helping people and animals in an area that has limited resources for animal care. By assisting the veterinarians with these procedures and care I will also be gaining valueable knowledge towards becoming a veterinarian myself. Through helping these animals now, I hope it opens doors for me to provide care to thousands of animals in the future! Another great advantage to helping the people in Punta Gorda is gaining the cultural knowledge they have to offer and sharing my culture in return.
Please help me in my fundraising efforts and making this trip a great experience! Any little bit will help! Funds raised will go towards trip registration, airfare, passport fees, medical screenings/shots, etc.
Thank you for your assistance!
