Justice For Women
In honour of the #MeToo movement, I have decided to run the Two Oceans Marathon 21K race for any girl who has ever said "me too". We, as South Africans, live in a society in which an act of rape or abuse towards women has become a desensitized topic. We live in a society in which this shocking culture is so common that only 1 in 20 cases of rape are reported. And even if they are reported, nothing is done to prosecute the perpetrator. This NEEDS to change. Being a woman should not be a weakness. Being a woman should be nothing but a privilege. This is a cause I am determined to advocate.
For each kilometer I run, I want to donate at least R100 to WAR (Women Against Rape) to support an organisation that focuses primarily on rehabilitation, education, care and comfort for women and children who have endured abuse or rape. In addition, WAR offers teaching facilities in the Western Cape at safe havens and schools that focus on "respect for humans and animals alike, acceptable behaviour and rights to privacy". R100 per kilometer will result in a R2100 donation, which will make a HUGE difference.
Please support my campaign to support any woman who has ever felt alone and vulnerable to abuse. Support my campaign to ensure that every woman is aware that it is her constitutional RIGHT to bodily integrity, equality and respect! No one should EVER be allowed to take that away from you. This campaign will allow just a few more women and children the chance to escape abuse and stand up for their constitutional RIGHT. And that, in itself, is worth every cent.
This race is in respect of anyone woman who has ever spoken her truth. This race is for every woman who has ever said: "me too".
